This video, filmed in March 2021, documents the specialized traffic light setup at the railroad crossing intersection of East McNichols Road (6 Mile) and Mt Elliott Street in Detroit, Michigan. The intersection features a robust setup designed for train safety. The main traffic lights are 2 retrofitted 12-inch Durasig 4-way clusters hanging on the span wire, accompanied by 4 standard heads. To ensure visibility from all angles, there are also 2 pole mounted heads. The most critical feature here is the railroad preemption system. The intersection is equipped with 2 No Right Turn LED blank out signs that activate specifically when a train is approaching, preventing drivers from turning onto the tracks during a crossing event. The pedestrian infrastructure has also been updated with 8 retrofitted Durasig units that now feature countdown timers.
