Located in the heart of Paris, this apartment is full of surprises. One of the standout features is a serene Japanese garden hidden just outside, offering a sense of calm and nature in the middle of a bustling city. Inside, the home is a masterclass in mixing textures and materials. Striking chrome accents contrast beautifully with the warmth of wood, creating a space that feels both contemporary and lived-in. Throughout this tour, Nami takes us through the challenges and inspirations behind her design choices, sharing how she navigated the delicate balance between preserving the apartment’s original character and infusing it with her own modern aesthetic.
When Nami first saw this space, she struggled to visualize its full potential. The abundance of wood felt overwhelming, and she wasn’t sure how to make it her own. By treating the space like an architect would—dividing it into distinct areas and layering in design elements over time—she was able to turn it into a home that reflects her personality and lifestyle.
One of the most striking elements of Nami’s design is her use of chrome and smoked glass to counterbalance the dominant wood tones. The library, a centerpiece of the apartment, is a perfect example of this contrast.Among these pieces are carefully selected decor elements, such as a sculptural vase and an abstract painting, adding depth and visual interest to the room.
The decor throughout the apartment tells a story of thoughtful curation and a love for timeless materials. Many of Nami’s favorite pieces, including her coffee table and signature vase, come from Triptyque. This dedication to sourcing high-quality, sustainable pieces is a cornerstone of her design philosophy. Instead of filling her home with mass-produced items, she has opted for unique, durable finds that add character and longevity to the space. Another standout piece is the lipstick mirror, which serves both a functional and aesthetic purpose.
But beyond the individual elements, what makes Nami’s apartment truly special is how it adapts to her evolving life. Over time, she has reconfigured spaces to better suit her needs. For example, her home office eventually became Solan’s room. This flexibility is what makes her home feel so effortlessly lived-in and deeply personal.
The layout of the apartment presented its own set of challenges. Nami had to think creatively about how to make the space feel cohesive and well-integrated.
Nami’s approach highlights the importance of balancing form and function, embracing imperfections, and curating a space that truly reflects one’s personality.
A huge thank you to Nami for welcoming us into their home.
