Tips for Growing Outstanding Martagon Lilies.

Martagon Lilies love moisture during the heat of summer. They are the perfect plant to add a splash of colour to your garden, and the great thing about these beauties are they also love dappled shade.
Mulching with straw and well composted horse manure will give you big healthy martagon bulbs with excellent root development.
The combination of straw and manure serves two functions, nutrients for the growing plant, and a mulch layer to retain moisture. For us spring is the optimal time to perform this task, just as the martagons are starting to emerge from the ground.
The health and bulb development is noticeable in the first year, but in the second year is when you see the big difference in plant health, as all the nutrients from manure and straw that has broken down was utilized by the plant and reserves put into the bulb for following years growth. Our martagons tend to divide more often, giving us more bulbs, which leads to more beautiful blooms.
