When confirming the news to Jimmy Fallon, Woodley admitted that she had been engaged “for awhile.”  The “Divergent” star said, “For us it’s not new news, so it’s kind of funny everybody right now is freaking out over it.”  Woodley told the Hollywood Reporter in July 2021 that she and the athlete kept quiet about his proposal for “months and months.”  The actress called the public’s reaction “really a lot,” explaining, “We were like, ‘Let’s just politely decline [to talk about the relationship] for a little while and live in our little bubble.’”
