#Single_phase_Induction_Motor operation and #motor_RPM calculation explained.
In an #induction_motor, the electric current needed on the rotor to produce torque, is obtained via electromagnetic induction from the rotating magnetic field of the stator winding.
Induction motor is also called as “#asynchronous_motor” because it operate at a speed little less than their #synchronous_speed.
Synchronous speed is the speed of rotation of the magnetic field in a motor, and depends upon the #frequency and number of poles of the machine.
When power is supplied to the motor, current is generated on the conductors of the rotor, due to the cutting of the rotating magnetic field on the stator windings.
This produces the torque necessary for the rotor to rotate, and will start following the rotating magnetic field.
You will realize now, when rotor speed reaches the synchronous speed, conductors on the rotor reduces cutting of the #magnetic_flux on the #rotating_magnetic_field, hence slows down due to the lack of torque to rotate.
So the rotor will never reach the speed of the rotating magnetic field i.e. the synchronous speed.
Difference between rotor speed and the synchronous speed is called “#fractional_slip” of the motor.
