We were excited to try out the free camping just outside of the Badlands National Park. If you enter "Badlands Boondocking Area" into Google Maps, you can find the exact area that we stayed. There are two entrances to the camping area, and we ended up taking the southernmost entrance, just a half mile the Badlands National Park. They are not marked physically on the road. They are just simple cattle crossings and may or may not have gates closed across them. Check out the great satellite images on Google Maps, and you will be able to see where you are going before you get there.

The camping was amazing. Views were "EPIC", and we will be going back to stay even longer. There are no hookups, but only being about 7 miles directly south of Wall, you are close to stores, Wall Drug, gas stations, etc. Even if there is not an available "on the edge" site for your particular camper, just pick a spot and we saw many sites that opened up as the day went on.

Be prepared. As a family involved in scouting, this never proved more relevant. The Badlands has its own ecosystem. It can be calm in Wall only seven miles away, but windy as all get out at the boondocking area as you can see in the video. Storms will blow in very quickly, so don't leave your rig without battening down the hatches so to speak. That being said, don't let the weather keep you from this awesome experience. A little preparation and thoughtfulness will go miles.

Saddle Pass Trail inside the Badlands National Park was an adventure. From the trailhead, it was up hill almost immediately. Not one of the easier trails in the park. Once on the "saddle", you can chose a couple of longer routes that take you through some of the more level trails and get you into the interior sections of the park.
