The place owes its name to Duke of Wellington, an Anglo-Irish soldier, and statesman, whose nose resembles the pointed nose of the cliff. To reach the Duke's Point, one need to trek and sometimes climb for approximately 45 - 60 minutes from the main railway station of Khandala.

Total climbing route length of Duke's Nose is 800 feet, However it can be divided into two parts: the lower 500 feet which is chossy, below french 5c grade, and upper 300 feet which is the brilliant climb that most people climb.

पुणे-मुंबई या दरम्यान प्रवास करताना सह्याद्रीची रांग खंडाळा ते खोपोली या दरम्यान उतरावी लागते. या दरम्यानच वाहनांसाठी किंवा रेल्वेच्या दळण-वळणासाठी खंडाळ्याचा घाट किंवा जुना बोर घाट बांधलेला आहे. आपण या घाटातून वाहनाने प्रवास करीत असू किंवा रेल्वेने, खंडाळा ओलांडले कि घाटात डाव्या हाताला एक भेदक सुळका आकाश फाडीत गेलेला दिसतो.
नियमीत प्रवास करणार्‍यांना किंवा डोंगरभटक्यांना त्याची ओळख असते, "डुयक्स नोज" किंवा स्थानिक भाषेत "नागफणी". एकुणच त्याचे उग्र रुप पाहून इथे कधी जाणे शक्य होईल असे सामान्य प्रवाशाला वाटत नाही .
