The First Funeral Rites for Metropolitan Athanasius Yohan I

In the orthodox Christian tradition, the funeral service usually consists of several rites. Accordingly, the first rite for the reposed Metropolitan Athanasius Yohan I took place this morning at the St. Peter's Believers Eastern Church Cathedral in Wills Point, Texas.

The service was celebrated by HG Geevarghese Mor Makariose of Colombo & Kigali, and assisted by HG Daniel Mor Timotheos of North America & Europe. They were assisted by Fr. Brian Kirik and Fr. Javier Mendoza from Wills Point, Fr. Mathew Swan (St. Cyprian's BEC, Stoney Creek, Canada), Fr. Dr. Daniel Johnson (Secretary General, Synod Secretariat) and Dn. Fr. Abel Punnoose (St. Thomas BEC Kuttapuzha, India), all of whom joined in praying for the departed soul of Metropolitan Yohan, asking the Holy Trinity to give His servant rest among the saints.
