HRH The Earl of Wessex visited Radley on Thursday 3 May, as part of his 'Tennis Challenge' raising funds for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. During 2018 he will appear on all fifty real tennis courts in the world, on each occasion playing three hours of doubles.

At Radley, having officially opened the new McKenna Strength and Conditioning Centre and met the College D of E participants, HRH played a long set of doubles with Dom Stone (Remove, J Social) against Ed Crowston (Fifth, D Social) and Jack Sykes (Fifth, F Social) losing a hard-fought contest 4/8. He then played two more sets with club members, each with a different partner and opponents, losing the first 5/8, but saving match point to win the last set 8/7. The Earl then mingled with guests for afternoon tea and presented a commemorative racquet to the club, before setting off for a formal dinner at Blenheim Palace.

Immediately after HRH had left, the limited edition racquet which he had used was auctioned off, the proceeds adding to the funds which Radley has raised for the D of E. The weather was kind to us and the day was a great success all round.
