Charles Curtis was the first Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the last Chairman of the Federal Power Commission. Now Vice Chairman of the State Department International Security Board and a member of the National Academies Intelligence, Science and Technology Experts Group, Mr. Curtis served as Under Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy from 1994 to 1997, with direct programmatic responsibility for all DOE’s energy, science, technology and national security programs. Mr. Curtis, who has practiced law in Washington, D.C., for many years, is President Emeritus of the Nuclear Threat Institute and senior advisor to the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the United Nations Foundation, and held positions on the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Treasury Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
