J.S. Bach - Passacaglia & Fugue in C minor, BWV 582 - Passacaglia (Synthesized)

Описание к видео J.S. Bach - Passacaglia & Fugue in C minor, BWV 582 - Passacaglia (Synthesized)

I hope it won't be too much of a disappointment that right when you expect the Fugue to start you'll be left dangling. I decided to post the Passacaille because it has taken me a long time to get to this point, and I expect the Fugue to be another large endeavour. The Fugue will come, in the meantime enjoy this incredible work by our beloved JSB.

The Passacaglia's ostinato is eight bars long, (longer than the usual four or six) and it is first stated by the pedal alone, then repeated in 20 variations, that are marked on the bottom right of the video, from variation number 1 to 20.

The bottom half of the video shows the same repeating ostinato theme, even when in the actual score (in the upper half) the theme is variated.

The Passacaglia builds the tension up until a climax in variation twelve. The following three variations are quieter, forming a short intermezzo, then the remaining five variations build the momentum high until the end, where the Passacaglia dives directly into the Fugue.

06:53 - Variation 20
