Course Objectives

Hive is one of the biggest analysis Platform developed by Facebook. It is a tool for data warehousing built on top of MapReduce. It grew from a need to manage and learn from humungous data. Hive makes it possible for analysts having SQL skills to run queries on huge volumes of data in the form of tables which is stored in Hive metastore. If MapReduce programs are required then hive doesn’t generate MapReduce Programs it rather internally calls generic Mapper and Reducer functions. It converts SQL queries into series of MapReduce jobs for execution on a Hadoop cluster. It is best suited for data warehousing applications where realtime responsiveness to queries, row-level inserts, updates or deletes are not required.
