With an Agile approach projects are managed and implemented in small ‘parcels of work’ called sprints. Specifically, a sprint is a set period of time during which work is completed and made ready for review. Hence it is a methodology which is highly flexible and responsive to the dynamics of changing requirements.

The close involvement of the customer and the iterative nature should mean that business benefits are realised by prioritising requirements based on what adds more value to the customer. However while the techniques of Agile are relatively easy to follow, defining and measuring business value can be hard, which can lead to the team focusing on ‘building the thing right’ rather than ‘building the right thing’, and hence falling short of the promise of Agile delivery.

In this talk, David will look at the issues behind this problem, and bring some ideas on how teams and organisations can gain additional value.
