I dream a world, by Andre J. Thomas (2018) | SATB choir

The Marionettes adult and youth choirs perform "I dream a world" (SATB) by celebrated African-American composer and arranger Andre J. Thomas. This performance was at the Chapel of St. Joseph's Convent (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Caribbean), in aid of the Chapel's restoration, and was part of the Hearts Beat Together 3 series of fundraising concerts. The music was set to a poem of the same name by the renowned African-American writer Langston Hughes. Written in 1926 as part of the "The weary blues" collection, it remains poignantly fitting for the times in which we live:

I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom's way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!
