Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says it is clear now Australians will not get the government-promised $275 power price reduction following the AEMO head’s admission.

The Australian Energy Market Operator head Daniel Westerman has said he cannot guarantee the current government policies will deliver lower power prices.

“He [Mr Westerman] and others, I believe, have allowed the impression to be established that somehow renewable energy is cheaper than other alternatives,” Mr Canavan told Sky News Australia.

“We know now that we’re not going to get the $275 power price reduction the government promised us.”
