There are still trains operating in the Sydney area on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia!

A nice friendly wave from the engineer and decent speed!

Chasing the Sydney Coal Railway train SCR 222 East to Lingan video 1 of 3!

Sydney Coal Railway locomotives 222, and 218 (ex DEVCO EMD GP38-2s) power a load coal train SCR 222 East eastbound passing the Whitney Pier area of Sydney, NS (Sydney Junction) shortly after departing the International Coal Pier at Sydney heading the the Lingan power generating facility hauling 21 loaded rapid discharge coal hoppers on an overcast morning.

The Sydney Coal Railway operates on the former DEVCO trackage (about 14 miles) from the International Coal Pier in Sydney to the Lingan NS Power generating station just east of New Waterford, NS. The line is totally cut off from the North American rail network. Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway (CBNS) ran it's last train from Sydney about a decade ago and much of it's trackage from Sydney to Port Hawkesbury is no longer passable.

Filmed at 9:11am, Monday August 26, 2024 at mile 6.21 of the Sydney Coal Railway Victoria Subdivision.
