In 1990s post-communist Poland, at a time when punk and metal were king, a creepy, dark, psycho-rap group called Kaliber 44 emerged and crushed the souls of the collective music scene as one of the first and most important rap groups Poland would ever be blessed with.

Times were rough and unemployment was at a staggering high in the Polish city of Katowice, and a group of young dudes who had grown up together in the same neighborhood smoked a lot of weed, struggled with money and work and depression, and started rapping together. Piotr Łuszcz, better known as his stage name Magik, after performing and recording his group's best works with them, left to form another equally influential group called Paktofonika, which you should definitely also check out.

Heartbreakingly, Magik committed suicide in 2000 by jumping out of his 9th-story window, leaving behind his wife and their little boy. Tonight was the concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of Kaliber 44's most important album (which sold 100,000 copies).

R.I.P. Magik 🙌🏼
