Crime and Punishment. By Fyodor Dostoevsky FULL Audiobook
Crime and Punishment is a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky, first published in 1866. The story is set in St. Petersburg, Russia, and follows the life of Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, a former student who is struggling to make ends meet. The novel is divided into six parts and an epilogue.

Part 1 introduces Raskolnikov, who is contemplating committing a crime. He goes to the apartment of an old pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna, to get money for a watch and to plan the crime. Afterward, he stops for a drink at a tavern, where he meets a man named Marmeladov, who tells Raskolnikov about his sickly wife, Katerina Ivanovna, and his daughter, Sonya, who has been forced into prostitution to support the family. Raskolnikov walks with Marmeladov to Marmeladov’s apartment, where he meets Katerina and sees firsthand the squalid conditions in which they live.

Part 2 begins with Raskolnikov committing the crime. He kills Alyona Ivanovna and her sister, Lizaveta, with an axe. He barely escapes from the apartment without being seen, then returns to his apartment and collapses on the sofa. Waking up the next day, Raskolnikov frantically searches his clothing for traces of blood. He receives a summons from the police, but it seems to be unrelated to the murders. At the police station, he learns that his landlady is trying to collect money that he owes her. During a conversation about the murders, Raskolnikov faints, and the police begin to suspect him.

Part 3 is about Raskolnikov's illness and his interactions with Porfiry Petrovich, the investigating magistrate. Raskolnikov is tormented by guilt and paranoia, and he becomes increasingly isolated from society. He also meets Sonya, who is a devout Christian and has been forced into prostitution to support her family. Sonya becomes Raskolnikov's confidante and helps him to come to terms with his guilt.

Part 4 is about Raskolnikov's trial. He is found guilty and sentenced to eight years of hard labor in Siberia. He is sent to a prison in Siberia, where he begins to reflect on his life and his actions. He also meets other prisoners, including Svidrigailov, who is a wealthy man with a dark past. Svidrigailov is attracted to Dunya, Raskolnikov's sister, and he tries to seduce her.

Part 5 is about Raskolnikov's time in Siberia. He is tormented by his guilt and his isolation, but he also begins to find redemption. He becomes friends with a fellow prisoner named Sonya, who helps him to see the error of his ways. He also has a dream in which he sees himself as a child, and he realizes that he has been wrong to think that he is above the law.

Part 6 is about Raskolnikov's return to society. He is released from prison after serving his sentence, and he returns to St. Petersburg. He is a changed man, and he begins to make amends for his past actions. He also learns that Svidrigailov has committed suicide and that Dunya is engaged to be married to a man named Razumikhin. Raskolnikov and Sonya decide to start a new life together.

The epilogue is about Raskolnikov's final redemption. He confesses his crime to Sonya and to the police, and he accepts his punishment. He also begins to see the world in a new light, and he realizes that he has been given a second chance. The novel ends with Raskolnikov and Sonya walking together into the Siberian sunset.
