Parashat Vaetchanan is a Torah portion found in the book of Deuteronomy (Devarim), chapters 3:23 to 7:11. In this portion, Moses continues his final speech to the Israelites before they enter the Promised Land. He recounts how he pleaded (hence "Vaetchanan," meaning "I pleaded") with God to allow him to enter the land, but God refused, allowing him only to see it from a distance.

Moses then emphasizes the importance of obeying God's commandments, teaching the Israelites the Shema, a central declaration of faith ("Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one"). He also reiterates the Ten Commandments, emphasizing the importance of loving and fearing God and teaching these commandments to future generations. The portion also warns against idolatry and encourages the Israelites to remain faithful to God.
