Welcome back to the immense GRAND CANYON National Park in Arizona!

Surprisingly, you don't see it coming when you drive there, because it's basically in the middle of the Kaibab National Forest! A-mile deep and up to 18-mile wide, the Grand Canyon displays hundreds of millions of years of geological history, including rock deposition, the Colorado Plateau uplift (50-70 millions of years ago), the arrival of the Colorado River (5-6 millions of years ago), and other erosion stuff.

The South Rim is the main part of GRAND CANYON NP, and the main access is from the South Entrance. For a first time there, and especially if you only have a day to spend there, we recommend you to focus on these 4 points:

#1: Parking / Visitor Center area: first view of the canyon at Mather Point
#2: Village / Bright Angel Trailhead area (via blue shuttle)
#3: Hermit Road (via red shuttle): best part of Grand Canyon with Powell Point, Hopi Point, Rim trail, Hermits Rest...
#4: Desert View Drive: other viewpoints as you leave the park through the East if you still have some time
