Hidden secrets of the Jaguar XKR's Exterior light switches

The XKR’s lighting controls are on the steering Wheel's left-hand stalk and can be overwhelming with all the different options provided on the left hand stalk, never mind the settings for “Autolamps with exit delays”, “Auto high beam”, “Auto lights with wipers” “daylight running lights”, “Fog lights”, a dimmer control, “vanity mirror lights”, “interior lights”, “Puddle lights”, “centre console light”, and convenience lights switch on the Smart key. The left-hand column stalk is where most of the controls are located.

The easy ones first.

There are three main selections, if you do nothing else you need to know these three positions plus the high beam and headlight flash selections

You’d think the OFF position would be self-explanatory - well not quite. Even in the off position the daylight running lights will be active with the ignition turned on.

The next two positions on the rotary collar turn lights on.

A green warning light will illuminate in the Instrument panel.

The side light switch is the second position on the rotary collar. It turns on the side, rear and number plate lights, as well as the instrument panel illumination.

Th daylight running lights and the side lights use the same LED bulbs.

The third position turns on the headlights as well as all the lights activated by the side lamp switch.

That’s easy-peasey so far. But there are two other switches you need to know for normal operation.

High beam is selected by pushing the stalk away from you, it will stay in place until you pull the stalk back to turn off the High beam.

There’s blue warning light in the instrument panel.

Pull the stalk towards you to flash the high beam, which will remain on for as long as you hold the stalk towards you.
