𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞:
The play adapted by Dr. Makhonmani Mongsaba from Kangjam Padmakumar’s essay Jallianwala Bagh is enacted to recall and commemorate the horrific massacre. It is also an endeavour to throw light on courageous spirit as well as sufferings of women at such times. Women played great roles in many major events of the history of India and Manipur. They fearlessly stood against the enemies. The stories of their bravery and sacrifices will be etched forever in the pages of history. The play is a humble effort to bring various roles of a woman into focus-a caring woman, a symbol of Mother Nature and a compassionate heart. A very pertinent question is how long we will keep on observing and commemorating those great inhuman killings and crimes of the world, while the world we live in are still plagued by such heinous acts each day. What are we going to do? I leave the play to the audience to give their judgements.
