My wife (Lisa) and I love to adventure on our tandem in the Alps. This is our third trip. This first chapter you might find a little boring unless you don't mind seeing some of our preparation and having a geography lesson so you know where we rode. Most non-central Europeans don't know anything about the central part of Austria other than Salzburg. But the lakes and mountains of Austria are second only to...maybe nowhere. But we love all the Alps, so it's hard to say.

The lakes region east of Salzburg with der Mondsee, Wolfgangsee, Attersee, Traunsee and Hallstattersee (among others) is spectacular. I thought the mountains would be smaller in this region, and they are a little bit, but they are still spectacular and have the lakes as perfect compliments. We should have spent more time in this region. Maybe the whole time! So next time--more time. We flew into Munich and started our adventure.
