Saving the best part of Death Valley National Park for last... The salt flats & Badwater basin! These iconic locations were must see places that I had wanted to see for years. I hiked in to the salt flats along Salt Creek way ahead of sunset so that I could take advantage of careful selection for my evening compositions.

Unfortunately, the next morning I overslept a bit more than I would have liked, and ultimately arrived at Badwater Basin just at sunrise rather than a bit beforehand. Rookie mistake! Anyway, I still greatly enjoyed seeing this part of the park and thankfully had some really great early morning light for a lot longer than usual due to some high clouds lingering off to the east. I kept my wide angle lens attached to the 5DSR from the night before and set out to find some interesting scenes in the desolate salt flats of Badwater Basin.

Despite a short time spent in Death Valley, I was able to see almost all of the parts of the park that I had planned to see. There were still a few others that I wasn't able to fit into a shortened weekend trip (the Racetrack, for example), but that only means one thing... I just will have to go back!
