Libre Party supporters blocked a major highway in Tegucigalpa as political tensions escalated following Honduras’ contested presidential election. Protesters demanded a vote by vote recount, accusing election authorities of irregularities and a lack of transparency in the tallying process. Highway lanes were occupied, traffic slowed, and demonstrators burned tires while police deployed water cannons to extinguish fires.

Honduras election results remain under scrutiny after authorities resumed counting ballots from the November thirty presidential polls following three days without updates. National Party candidate Nasry Asfura held a narrow lead with forty point eleven percent, closely followed by Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla with thirty nine point seventy three percent. Libre Party candidate Rixi Moncada stood third with nineteen point seventeen percent.

Libre leaders have called for annulment of the results, alleging foreign interference after United States President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Asfura. The protests reflect growing uncertainty and public distrust surrounding one of Honduras’ most disputed elections in years.
