Intense Version Of The Russ Wellington Song Called “Demi Monde” Performed At The 2026 New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival. This was recorded at The New Orleans Jazz Museum on January 17th 2026.

Very interesting on how this performance came about. The day before this performance Russ was inspired to create this song after hearing Chris Thomas King singing about the concept of The Demi Monde

1. This song is about going up the River to a place called The Demi Monde.

During the last half of the 19th century a class of women who have lost their standing in respectable society because of indiscreet behavior or sexual promiscuity.

2. Demimonde was a polite 19th century term that was often used the same way we use the term “mistress” today.

Each January since 2016, some of the planet’s finest homemade instrument players and the movement’s most dedicated enthusiasts have congregated in New Orleans to participate in what has been called the World Cup of cigar box guitar events.

It’s a unique celebration of the art, music, and cultural history of homemade stringed instruments in the city where those simple devices played a role in the early development of Jazz and Blues. Covering 3 days and utilizing the world-class listening and exhibit spaces at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, the festival always presents an unsurpassed roster of CBG artists.
