I team up with Elvis for another Delorean tech day. The theme of which is fluid flushes. This began with a simple swap-out of a door piston that had gone weak, however given the performance of the new one, I decided to order a complete set from Special-T-Auto and do a side-by-side comparison at the end of the video.

Once arriving at the shop, with the car on the lift, the project begins with the oil drain and filter removal. With that underway, a strategy is used to remove MOST of the coolant without going crazy. Subsequently closing the system and loading it with demineralized water.

Of course its important at this point to complete the oil change procedure with a filter and new oil!!! Running the car with a full heat cycle and allowing to sit for a while. It is then re-drained and resealed, but not before each mating surface is controlled and cleaned to ensure no leaks are visible upon refill with 50/50.

The next full run monitors temperature and heat control. It was found also that the fan sensor switch needed a cleaning for good operation. With this, it was onward to the Brakes.

The brakes were started with the evacuation and cleaning of the reservoir with the vacuum pump, and filled with fresh oil. This pump, also used for pulling oil to the calipers as it it slowly filled to clear the pipes. Pulling open the calipers and pushing the pedal in the conventional method is also used to ensure the fluid is removed from the outer caliper.

As the car is brought back to the house the swap-out of the gas pistons begins. With immediate noted positive performance. The most interesting however is the side by side comparison of the DMC shock as compared to the one from SPECIAL-T-AUTO, the later of which slows at it approaches the top of the travel and doesn't rip the door off the hinges.
