In this video, we will demonstrate how to extract the volume of a stockpile from a point cloud using aerial drone data. The process involves several software tools, including Trimble Stratus, Trimble Connect, and Trimble Business Center, which will facilitate project collaboration and ease of sharing large files. To begin the workflow, we start in Trimble Stratus, where we select a project containing stockpiles and access the point cloud files. We can choose from various LAZ files based on different coordinate systems. Once we select a file, we push it to Trimble Connect, which allows for easy data sharing with colleagues globally. Next, if a project doesn’t appear in Connect, we create a new project. We’ll submit this project to enable file transfer. After sending the file from Stratus to Connect, we check the status; it might take several minutes to appear. After confirming the upload in Trimble Connect, we move to Trimble Business Center to create a new project using the US survey foot template. We ensure that our settings are correct before proceeding. In the latest version of Trimble Business Center, we can access connected workspace projects directly from within the software. We open the connected workspace and locate our recently created "Mine Stockpile Demo" project. From this point, we will import the relevant data to process it further. This video will showcase the entire procedure to prepare and analyze the data effectively. The entire workflow emphasizes collaboration and efficiency in handling large datasets, demonstrating the capabilities of Trimble products in surveying and volume extraction tasks.
