Kiss' 1976 single "Hard Luck Woman" featured the song "Hard Luck Woman" as the first single. Although Paul Stanley initially intended it for Rod Stewart, Kiss chose to keep it for themselves after the success of their soft rock ballad "Beth." Rod Stewart, particularly the songs "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well," was an inspiration for Stanley's "Hard Luck Woman," as he has mentioned multiple times. The song "Brandy" by the American pop-rock band Looking Glass was the primary influence for Stanley, while Stewart's music provided some inspiration as well.
