Описание к видео Engine Spark - 'HOW IT'S CREATED' - 2-Stroke & 4-Stroke. (by Craig Kirkman)

VISUALLY EXPLAINED

A spark in an internal combustion engine, like a two-stroke or four-stroke engine, is created through a component called the ignition system. The ignition system is responsible for generating a high-voltage spark at the right moment to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the engine's cylinders. This ignition process is crucial for the engine to produce power and run. Here's how a spark is created in an engine:

Components of the Ignition System:

Spark Plug: The spark plug is a key component of the ignition system. It is located at the top of each cylinder and is connected to the ignition system.

Ignition Coil: The ignition coil is an electrical component that generates a high-voltage electrical pulse. In modern engines, there is typically one ignition coil for each spark plug, while older engines may use a single coil for all cylinders.

Battery: The battery provides a low-voltage electrical source for the ignition system.

Ignition Control Module (ICM) or Ignition ECU: In some engines, there is an electronic control module or engine control unit (ECU) that controls the ignition timing and other parameters.

The Ignition Process:

When the engine is running or being started, the ignition system is activated.

The ignition coil receives a low-voltage electrical signal from the battery or the engine's control module.

This low-voltage signal is then rapidly interrupted or "broken" by the ignition system. The interruption of this signal causes a sudden collapse of the magnetic field within the ignition coil.

As the magnetic field collapses, it induces a high-voltage surge or spark in the secondary coil winding of the ignition coil. This high-voltage surge can reach tens of thousands of volts.

The high-voltage surge travels through the spark plug wire to the spark plug.

At the tip of the spark plug, there is a small gap between the center electrode and the ground electrode. When the high-voltage surge reaches this gap, it creates an electrical spark.

The spark ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder. This ignition process occurs just before the piston reaches top dead center, allowing the expanding gases to drive the piston down and produce power.

The precise timing of when the spark occurs is crucial and is controlled by the engine's ignition system. Modern engines use sensors, such as crankshaft position sensors and camshaft position sensors, to determine the optimal timing for the spark, ensuring efficient and reliable combustion.

In summary, the ignition system in an engine generates a spark through the ignition coil, which is induced by rapidly interrupting a low-voltage signal, ultimately creating the high-voltage spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture within the engine's cylinders.

In this video I explain, for beginners, the basic principles that small petrol engines (both Two Stroke and Four Stroke) use to generate a spark.

I hope this helps and thank you for watching
