This is 'Take 2' of my experiment inspired by Justalabrat. Does a gravity powered car travel further if you catch the weight or you drop it to the floor?

I wasn't convinced by the results in the first video as I thought the weight was still attached to the axle when it landed in the plastic tray whereas when it was allowed to fall to the floor it was able to travel a bit further and therefor give the axle another 'powered' revolution or two, making the car travel further.
In this new video I have shortened the line so that it is released from the axle whilst still high above the chassis ensuring the same number of 'powered' axle revolutions in both situations.
However the results I have achieved appear to give the same conclusion and dropping the weight to the floor lets the car travel further than catching the weight on the car.

Main components:
The main car is one of my old rubber band powered cars. The chassis is a piece of cardboard, the axle tubes are drinking straws, the axles are bamboo cane or bbq skewers. The wheels are CDs, the hubs are bottle tops. The tower is bamboo canes, the pulley came from an old record player, a few paperclips were used and also some plastic bead for spacers. I used fishing line but string or strong cotton would do to lift the lead fishing weights.
