SAAB has conveyed to the Indian government that if the Gripen-E is selected for the Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRFA) program, the company has promised to produce between 20-25 fighters per year for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Swedish aerospace giant confirmed that its facility in Linköping can produce up to 25 Gripen-E fighters annually.

Various reports, mainly from Indian sources, indicate that New Delhi intends to rapidly and significantly increase its air combat fleet in the next 6-7 years.

India's MRFA program is an ambitious initiative aimed at modernizing the IAF fleet by acquiring advanced multi-purpose fighter jets.

Several global aerospace companies have expressed interest in participating in the MRFA program.

They offer the latest and most advanced 4.5 generation fighter jets to meet the requirements of the IAF.

From the United States, Lockheed Martin offers the F-21, a variant of the F-16 designed specifically for India. Meanwhile Boeing presented the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet .

From Western Europe, Dassault Aviation markets the Rafale , a twin-engine fighter aircraft already in service with the IAF. Then Eurofighter GmbH championed the Typhoon and SAAB with its Gripen E.

Russia, which also has close military ties with India, offers the MiG-35, an advanced version of the MiG-29 and Sukhoi Su-35.
