LaLiberte Iconic in Cave Creek, Arizona, is a residence just over 5,000 square feet built with Fox Blocks ICFs with an additional 760-square-foot ICF casita set aside for guests. LaLiberte Iconic is the latest in a series of Idea Homes produced by Pro Builder. The project is the brainchild and the personal home of Mark LaLiberte, a building science expert and co-founder and president of Construction Instruction, a consultancy and training facility based in Denver. LaLiberte conceived the project to demonstrate a variety of approaches to achieve net-zero energy use, building resiliency, and indoor comfort and health in the harsh climate of the Sonoran Desert. The use of ICF was key to meeting the required energy efficiency and it would not have been possible to create this net-zero home in the desert without it. Because of the building science techniques used, including ICFs and the home’s unique design elements, the builder currently has four customers designing net-zero ICF homes.
