The plastic moment can be found by taking moments of the resultants of the tensile and compressive stresses about the neutral axis. The elastic and plastic neutral axes of a rectangular cross section coincide and pass through the centroid of area of the section. The ratio of the plastic moment of a beam to its yield moment is known as the shape factor.
