Fire blight is the number one disease of apple in Kentucky. First infections occur during bloom (blossom blight) and later disease can spread to actively growing branches (tip blight). The complex life cycle of the fire blight bacterium makes it one of the most difficult diseases to manage. In this video, Dr. Nicole Gauthier, Extension plant pathologist discusses disease prevention by reducing numbers of infective bacterial cells.
