We were only going to Cardiff for 24 hours, in fact we weren't really going to visit the city, we were going to a birthday party of a good friend of ours, Tim Baker, former associate director at Clwyd Theatr Cymru / Theatr Clwyd. As it was a, 'significant' birthday, we thought it was definitely worth making the 3 and a half our train journey down to the Welsh capital, Cardiff.

The party was taking place at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff and we knew that many of our friends, lots of whom we hadn't seen in many years were going to be there. Many of the people there were former associate actors or members of the Theatr Clwyd company, or Clwyd Theatr Cymru company as it was known then when the building was run by former RSC director, Terry Hands CBE.
The best things about seeing and talking to everybody at this party was, even though it's been many years since a lot of us had seen each other, conversations were picked up like it was only yesterday. That was the influence that the organisation had on all of the people involved back then.

We also had many ties with Cardiff from the past. Not so much Rach, who although had been there a few times, it was only ever for work and never really got to know the city, but Wills used to go almost every year for about 17 years in a row to take down theatre productions, to mainly the New Theatre, Cardiff, but also The Sherman Theatre and Chapter Arts Centre.

Getting back to this Things To Do In Cardiff - 24 Hours In Cardiff Video. In this video we cover lots of what this Welsh capital city has to offer.

We take a look around the streets of Cardiff, we visit Chapter Arts Centre, the Sherman Theatre, and take a nostalgic look around The New Theatre. We head down Bute Street to take a good look around Cardiff Bay, taking in all of the sights, including The Wales Millennium Centre, the Pier Head Building, take a ride on the Ferris Wheel and also gate crash some work at the Norwegian Church to see some friends of ours who we thought may be there.
After a trip on the Cardiff Bay Water Taxi to Bute Park, we went on to explore Cardiff Castle, as we'd never been inside there before.
A quick look around the city again, getting some food and seeing some sights, it was time to make our way back home.
