Ikeja Lagos is the capital city of Lagos State in southwestern Nigeria, Prior to the emergence of military rule in the early 1980s, Ikeja was a well planned, clean and quiet residential and commercial town with shopping malls, pharmacies and government reservation areas.
Early in the 20th century it became an agricultural hinterland for Lagos; kola nuts were first grown in Nigeria in this area. The opening of the Lagos-Ibadan railway in 1901 and the growth of Lagos as a port transformed Ikeja into a residential and industrial suburb of that city. In the mid-1960s an industrial estate was established, and in 1976 Ikeja became the capital of Lagos state.

The city was previously known as 'Akeja,' and was named after the deity that the Awori people worshipped. Over time, the name became distorted, eventually becoming Ikeja. However, some claim that the name Ikeja is an acronym for 'Ikorodu and Epe Joint Administration.'

Ikeja is 17 km North-West of Lagos State, and has districts such as Anifowose, Ogba, Onigbongbo, Oregun, Ojodu, Opebi, Alausa etc.

This City is not called the state capital for nothing. it houses Africa biggest technology Market (Computer Village) , Murtala Muhammed International Airport , Big Shopping malls , Various Parks and luxury Hotel's, Making it one of Africa best cities to live in.
