Liverpool Walk: Outside Anfield | Liverpool F.C.【4K】

We take a special tour around Anfield, home to Premier League football club, Liverpool. It has been their home ground since Liverpool's formation in 1892. The stadium however started life in 1884 as home ground to local rivals Everton F.C. before they moved just up the road to Goodison Park following a dispute with the club president. This explains the stadium's location in the Everton district of the city of Liverpool! (confused yet?) At a capacity of 54,074 it is the seventh largest football stadium in England.

The four stands are The Kop, Main Stand, Anfield Road Stand and Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand. The Kop is perhaps one of the most famous stands in all of football, named after a small hill in South Africa called Spion Kop where hundreds of soldiers from the Lancashire Regiment of the British Army, including a strong Liverpool contingent, were killed in 1900 during the Second Boer War.

Around the stand are statues of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley. Bill Shankly managed Liverpool from 1959 to 1974, collecting three first division titles (equivalent of today's Premier League). Bob Paisley was a Liverpool player and later, manager from 1974 to 1983, where he guided Liverpool to six first division titles and three European Cup titles (equivalent of today's Champions League). Outside the Main Stand is the Hillsborough Memorial - a tribute to the 96 Liverpool fans who were tragically killed in 1989 during an FA Cup match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest held at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield.

HOW TO GET TO THE STADIUM:

BY BUS: On matchdays the 917 express bus service runs directly from Liverpool city centre to Anfield every 10 minutes. Alternatively the 26 & 27 buses run from Liverpool ONE bus station to the ground.

ON FOOT: Walking from Liverpool Lime Street Station is possible, although it is two miles away so do set aside around 45 minutes if you fancy the hike.
