In a Mangalorean household, festive celebrations are incomplete without a delicious serving of Moong dal Payasam & Most Mangaloreans make Moong Dal Payasam or Payasa (in Tulu) on auspicious occasions such as New Year (Ugadi), Dassera or birthdays. This recipe I learnt from my mother and I would like to share with you’ll this is the most easy and delicious traditional dessert in half the time without compromising on the taste.

Ingredients:
Moong dal - 1.5 Cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Thick Coconut Milk - 3 Cups
Cardamom Powder - 2 tbsp
Sabudana / Topioca pearl- half cup.soak it for 1 hr
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Ghee - 3 tbsp
Cashews- 8-10
Raisins-10-12

Take a saucepan add ghee then add moong dal roast it till you get nice aroma of lentil and ghee Then add water cook it for 15- 20 mins .

Once the Dal is cooked Add soaked sabudana And then coconut Milk stir it well and let it cook.

Then Add jaggery and stir it well so that the jaggery starts melting

Now Add Cardamom powder and stir then Add little salt stir it well.

Now for seasoning Take small pan add Ghee then add Raisins fry it and keep it aside and then In same pan Add cashews fry it and pour it in the Payasam and then Add the raisins too.

Moong dal Payasa is Ready to eat
