U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday (September 26) he anticipates additional indictments against his adversaries following criminal charges filed against former FBI Director James Comey, marking an intensification of his administration's legal actions against political opponents.

"I think there will be others," Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for the Ryder Cup golf tournament in New York. He added, however, that he did not have a specific list of individuals.

The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday charged Comey with making false statements and obstructing a congressional investigation. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

The indictment is the first instance of Trump"s administration securing charges against a high-profile critic, reflecting the president"s longstanding threats to take legal action against his political rivals. Investigations into other figures, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former national security adviser John Bolton, remain ongoing.

The case against Comey has raised concerns over the erosion of norms aimed at shielding U.S. law enforcement from political influence. A federal prosecutor in Virginia resigned last week after expressing doubts about the evidence, and others in the office have privately questioned the merits of the charges, sources familiar with the matter said.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, under pressure from Trump to pursue cases against his critics, faced renewed scrutiny after the indictment. Trump celebrated the development, writing on social media: "JUSTICE IN AMERICA! He has been so bad for our Country, for so long."
