(27 Aug 2019) More than a dozen women who call themselves survivors have spoken out in court about sexual abuse they say they've suffered at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein.
The emotional two-and-a-half-hour testimony Tuesday came weeks after the 66-year-old financier killed himself in a New York jail cell while awaiting his sex trafficking trial.
The extraordinary court hearing was called by the judge presiding over Epstein's trial. He set the hearing after prosecutors asked that he scrap charges against Epstein since the defendant is dead.
Many of the women said this was the closest they'd come to getting their day in court.
Some of the women recounted their testimony to the press outside the courthouse once the hearing was over.
Chauntae Davies said Epstein and his purported madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, flew her to locations around the world before he attacked her on her third or fourth occasion with him.
Davies said she told Epstein "no, please stop," but added, "That just seemed to excite him more. He continued to rape me."
She said it makes her "sick to (her) stomach that there are perpetrators out there that obviously helped him in many ways for a very long time and are still out there with no punishment."
Davies said while it is empowering to meet the other alleged victims, she said "it's pretty upsetting to see how many lives he's devastated."
Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has said she was a 15-year-old working at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club when she was recruited to perform sex acts on Epstein, said: "It's not how Jeffrey died but it's how he lived. And we need to get to the bottom of everybody who is involved with that, starting with Ghislaine Maxwell."
Giuffre has claimed that she also had sex with a list of other prominent men, including Britain's Prince Andrew.
He has adamently denied her allegations. On Tuesday, Giuffre said of Prince Andrew, "He knows exactly what he's done and I hope he comes clean about it."
