8 Reasons I Chose Honey Gourami For My Fish Room! - One Of The Best Beginner Fish For Your Aquarium!

In today's video, I'll be sharing why Honey Gourami are my favorite fish and why I chose to keep them in my fish room. These peaceful and interesting fish are perfect for community tanks, and in this video, I'll cover everything from their unique behaviors to tank mates, size, and more!

Honey Gourami have an incredibly peaceful nature, which is one of the main reasons I love keeping them. They are perfect for community tanks and are consistently non-aggressive. Even when kept with small species like chili rasboras and cherry shrimp, I’ve never had any issues. They may chase each other in species-specific behavior, but they never bother their tank mates.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Honey Gourami is their unique behaviors. They use their modified ventral fins to "hug" their surroundings, and sometimes, they even seem to point at objects in the tank! In this video, you’ll see clips of them interacting in interesting ways, including how they cautiously approached an Amano shrimp while reaching for food.

Over time, I’ve kept Honey Gourami with a wide range of tank mates, including guppies, neon tetras, and even shrimp. Despite some warnings on social media, I’ve found Honey Gourami and shrimp can coexist without issue if the tank is set up correctly. In fact, in one of my tanks, I had over 200 cherry shrimp living peacefully with two adult Honey Gourami.

When it comes to tank size, Honey Gourami are very versatile due to their small size. They can be kept in tanks as small as 10 gallons if it’s well planted. I’ll share my experiences of keeping them in tanks ranging from 12 to 40 gallons and how to create an ideal environment for them.

Honey Gourami are also hardy and easy to care for, making them a great option for beginners. They can handle a wide range of water conditions, and while they thrive in well-maintained tanks, they’re also capable of surviving temporary spikes in water parameters, a useful trait for those new to the hobby.

Their appearance, while limited in color options, can add a unique and vibrant touch to a planted tank. The bright yellow of Honey Gourami contrasts beautifully with green plants, making them stand out in any setup. Some people may prefer fish with more color variety, but in a community tank, Honey Gourami are a striking addition.

Another reason to love Honey Gourami is their affordability. They are much cheaper than many other centerpiece fish in the hobby, making them an excellent option for those looking to add something special to their tank without breaking the bank. Availability can be inconsistent, but when they’re in stock, they’re a great find.

Finally, Honey Gourami are fully compatible with planted tanks. They don’t eat or damage plants, which means your aquascape will remain intact. In fact, they thrive in densely planted tanks, often using plants as hiding spots, adding another layer of interest to your aquarium.

If you’re considering adding Honey Gourami to your tank, I hope this video helps you make an informed decision! Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more content on aquarium fish care.
