Under an hour north from our home in Changhua, Taiwan there are a few trails we have yet to explore in Miaoli County. The first one that caught our eye on a Google search was the Skywalk in Tongluo Township. After a quick stop at the Taiwan Hakka Museum, it was just a short drive away. We parked in a lot near the industrial park close to a ridge. It was eerily void of trekkers and cyclists. Perhaps it was the time of day; five o'clock on a Monday. Anyway, we decided to take a short walk and explore.

The path led to an impressive suspension bridge with a rewarding, but hazy view. In fact, the bridge can be seen from a highway we were on, but we had no idea we would end up there. After a second bridge with a lookout platform, we headed back. We discovered that it was possible walk beneath the bridge for a change of scenery. Close to being back at the car, we were barked at by some wild dogs, but we kept facing them while retreating. My wife was actually quite brave, as she yelled at them! (I didn't have time to film that scene). It is high time that I begin carrying my new hiking stick on our walks! Video on the making of that stick coming soon!

Back down the mountain, we headed to nearby Sanyi, which is famous for wooden sculptures. It was time for dinner so we found a nice Hakka restaurant in town. Hakka, translated as "guest people," is the largest minority group in Taiwan and originally migrated from China. They have a distinct language which is widely spoken and they are noted for having fine cuisine.
