On September 20, The Hague witnessed violent anti-migration protests involving thousands demanding stricter immigration policies just over a month before the Dutch national election. Organized by a right-wing activist, the demonstration escalated as groups clashed with police, throwing rocks and bottles. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons to control the unrest. A police vehicle was set on fire, and protesters blocked a nearby highway. Additionally, windows at the headquarters of the centre-left D66 party were smashed, highlighting tensions between the far right and progressive groups. Anti-migration populist Geert Wilders, though invited, did not attend but condemned the violence on social media, labeling the violent protesters as "idiots" and deeming attacks on police unacceptable. The incident underscores growing polarization around migration ahead of the October 29 elections.
