Northeast Chinese Food || Chop Chop Episode 2

Описание к видео Northeast Chinese Food || Chop Chop Episode 2

Welcome to our new food series called Chop Chop! In our first episode (watch it here:    • Shanghai Breakfast Foods || Chop Chop  ), Catherine and Harris took to the streets of Shanghai to give you a taste of all of the different types of breakfast foods you can experience on the go in China.

In this second episode of our Chop Chop series, Catherine and Harris give you a glimpse into the different types of food you can find in the Dongbei region of China.

Dongbei is the most Northeastern region of China, consisting of the Heilongjian, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces. Known for its harsh and long winters, the region of Dongbei is known for creating hearty and warming dishes, to help locals survive these winters. Unlike the south, the main crop here is wheat. This means noodles and dumplings are a staple.

Due to its shared borders with Russia, Mongolia, and North Korea, Dongbei food is heavily influenced by these country’s cuisines as well. It has a vast variety of dishes with something for everyone. It has flavours that are both familiar but authentically new to foreigners. Most of all though, it is homey and comforting food for the soul.

When you first move to China, you are going to encounter all sorts of new experiences, but most importantly your taste buds will be taken to a delicious new place. You’ll be able to dive in to the dizzying array of regional foods ranging from the mouth-numbingly spicy Sichuan cuisine to the cumin-spiced, middle-eastern flavours of the Northwest and back down South to traditional Cantonese dim sum. Before you start that tasty adventure, it’s best to ease in to it with the comforting food from the Chinese region of Dongbei.

Watch as Catherine and Harris show you the huge variety of Northeast Chinese food - sweet, salty, spicy, crunchy, pickled – Dongbei food has something for you.
