Congress Workers Hold Press Conference Over Appointment of District President Jammu Rural
Ramesh Chander Bhagat, former NSUI State General Secretary and former Block President of Youth Congress, Suchetgarh, along with grassroots Congress workers, addressed a press conference expressing serious concern over the recent appointment of the new District President of Jammu Rural of the Indian National Congress.
During the press conference, the speakers stated that Bhagat Biradhari (community) has once again been ignored in the organizational structure of the party. They emphasized that the Bhagat Biradhari belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category and constitutes a significant vote bank across almost all constituencies of the Jammu region. Ignoring such an influential and committed community, they said, could weaken the party’s traditional support base at the grassroots level.
Ramesh Chander Bhagat pointed out that members of the Bhagat Biradhari have consistently stood with the Congress Party during difficult times and have worked tirelessly during elections, agitations, and mass movements. Despite their loyalty and contribution, the community has allegedly not been given due representation in key organizational positions, particularly in Jammu Rural.
The Congress workers further alleged that certain “sleeper cells” within the party are deliberately working to weaken the Congress from inside. According to them, these elements are misleading the party leadership, sidelining deserving and experienced workers, and promoting favoritism, which is causing dissatisfaction among grassroots cadres.
They warned that such internal sabotage, if not checked in time, could seriously harm the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections. The speakers urged the senior leadership of the Congress to review the recent appointment, ensure social balance and inclusiveness, and give proper representation to Scheduled Caste communities, especially the Bhagat Biradhari.
The Congress workers appealed to the high command to listen to the voices from the ground and take corrective steps to strengthen the organization in Jammu Rural. They reiterated their commitment to the ideology of the Congress Party but made it clear that unity, justice, and fair representation are essential for rebuilding the party’s strength in the Jammu region.
The press conference concluded with a strong message that ignoring dedicated workers and influential communities would only benefit rival political forces, and that the Congress leadership must act decisively to protect the party’s future.
