I’m Dr. Catherine. I practice in Alameda, California, and have been practicing for 12 years. I see everyone—from working parents to teenagers to babies—in a very general practice.
Before working together, everything was referral-based. I managed okay, working part-time three days a week. Patients were consistent, but I often had only 5 to 10 patients a day. I accepted both cash and insurance. I felt comfortable, but I wasn’t making much money and wanted to expand since I had more time.
What kept me from growing was not having enough patients and not running my business the way I should. I wasn’t collecting as I should, and I wasn’t confident in telling patients how much care they needed. I’d let them manage their health without guiding them the way I could have. Now, I feel more confident. I always knew I did good work, but this helped me see that it’s not awkward to share what I can do—it’s helping people.
Since starting, I’ve been busier. I used to work three to four days a week, with two busy days. Now, all four days are full from 9 to 7. I like what I do, so being busy feels good—knowing I have people to help is energizing.
I found out about you through a random email. Your last name caught my eye—I thought you might be related to a local doctor. I usually delete emails like that, but I responded and realized you weren’t related at all. I already had a growth mindset, so I decided to go for it.
Before, I had no business training. I didn’t know how to talk to patients about care, collect payments, or communicate the importance of what I do. Now, I feel worthy of what I charge because I know I provide value.
At first, I was nervous—sales, texting patients, sending promotions—I didn’t want to bother anyone. But it was well received, and former patients came back. Learning about payment plans was new and scary too, but I worked through it. I said yes because I wanted to grow, not because I was confident. I knew I had to try something different.
When we started, I made about $5,000–6,000 a month. Now I’m making $9,000–9,300 a month and steadily growing. That $10,000 milestone feels very doable now, and I feel I can grow even more. At first, that goal seemed far-fetched, but now I see the path.
The process helped me not only impact my patients more but also feel more confident in myself. I don’t regret it at all. It’s been exciting and has kept me motivated. After plateauing so long, I finally see progress and hope again.
As a chiropractor, we don’t get business training in school. Having a partner like you has helped fill in the gaps—how to talk to patients, bill properly, and build a business. There’s no ceiling on growth; you just need to know which ladder to take.
If someone’s unsure about taking the next step, I’d say: don’t overthink the steps. Decide that you want to grow, and the rest will follow. Worrying about how to do it keeps you stuck. Set the goal and take it one step at a time.
