When I set up my curtain and canvases on September22, 2017, I didn't know how this would work out.
I wanted to do an Homage to Sol Lewitt and his guided paintings, but I wanted the outcome to be far less predictable. I wanted to leave more open to the interpretation of the volunteers. And I wanted to include people who may not have an inherent interest in art the way someone in a museum or gallery would. I'm going to repeat this experiment. and I'm going to make adjustments to the way I do it. If you want to be a part of it. If you want to host a version, please let me know!

I had no idea how this was going to work out.
So I started by hanging a sign with the following description:

The plan:
~I will be positioned opposite Canvas A unable to see Canvas B.
~Volunteer Artists will position themselves opposite Canvas B, unable to see Canvas A.
~I will describe each addition to Canvas A as I create it.
~ Volunteer Artists will listen to the description and Copy**
onto Canvas B.
~When finished, each Volunteer Artist
will please sign on the edge of the canvas as well as the instruction list. (I’ll post the finished work online when it’s done!)
**Some details will be left to the volunteers’ discretion.
Paints, brushes, and mixing trays are provided.
Mixing special colors is highly encouraged!
Note to Volunteer Artists: There is no wrong way to do this!!!
Your contribution is up to you alone and your interpretation
is exactly what I want you to paint!
Anybody who wants to give advice is invited to save it for their own turn at the canvas. Please don’t try to influence others’ contributions. Pick up a brush and be the next volunteer artist!
