“I’ll be visiting my father’s home country."

Nasa astronaut Suni Williams spoke about how India looks from space and her plan to visit the country soon to share her experiences of space exploration with people there.

Williams also said she hoped to meet Shubhanshu Shukla, the Indian astronaut who would be part of the multi-country crew on the historic Axiom Mission 4 to the ISS. Shukla is among the four Indian Air Force pilots shortlisted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) for India's own maiden space flight.

Williams made these remarks during a press conference where she, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, discussed her unexpected nine-month stay on the ISS. The duo were scheduled to go to the ISS for an eight-day mission to test Boeing Starliner's capsule but ended up staying for months after the spacecraft had technical problems. The astronauts returned to Earth on 19 March aboard the SpaceX Dragon, which safely splashed down in the ocean off the coast of Florida, US.
