Chitra Mudgal is the first Indian woman to receive the Vyas Samman for her novel Avaan, hailed as one of the greatest literary works in Hindi. Avaan, which has received worldwide acclaim, portrays the lives and times during the Trade Union Movement during the time of Datta Samant. A prolific writer, Mudgal’s work spans short stories, novels, children’s books, plays, essays and translations. Her latest work includes the shortstory collections Lokpriya Kahaniyan and Chuni Hui Kahaniyan, and the novel Post Box no. 203 , Nalasopara.
Nand Bharadwaj is a well-known writer of Hindi and Rajasthani as well as a media person. He has written a number of books that include poetry, fiction, literary criticism and a collection of articles on contemporary media. His Rajasthani Samhi Khulato Marag was awarded the Sahitya Akademi in 2005. He has edited two anthologies on modern Rajasthani fiction and poetry. He has also been awarded the prestigious Bihari Award by the K.K. Birla Foundation, New Delhi. Doordarshan awarded him for his outstanding contribution in the production of a series on Indian classics. As a media professional, he has worked with AIR and DD for more than 3 decades. He retired as Senior Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jaipur.

Two prominent and iconic women writers read from their books and speak of the political and the personal in their work as they discuss the power of literature and the role of the writer in our changing times. Chitra Mudgal is the prolific and much-awarded writer of over ten books, including Aavan and Ek Zameen Apni. Nasera Sharma is an award-winning novelist and short story writer whose fiction questions and interrogates gender inequity. Her latest book, Adab Mein Bayin Pas/i, is a translated and edited collection of writing by Afro-Asian writers in six volumes and a radical feminist reading of literature. In conversation with writer. poet and critic Nand Bhardwaj.

Described as the 'greatest literary show on Earth', the Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas.
The past decade has seen it transform into a global literary phenomenon having hosted nearly 2000 speakers and welcoming over a million book lovers from across India and the globe. Our core values remain unchanged: to serve as a democratic, non-aligned platform offering free and fair access.

Festival Co Directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple, alongside Producer Sanjoy K Roy and Teamwork Arts, create a platform for an array of speakers to debate, discuss and present their ideas in the annual five-day programme set against the backdrop of Rajasthan's stunning cultural heritage and the Diggi Palace in the state capital Jaipur.
Past speakers have ranged from Nobel Laureates His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, J.M. Coetzee, Muhammad Yunus and Orhan Pamuk, Man Booker Prize winners Ben Okri, Howard Jacobson, Margaret Atwood, Marlon James, Michael Ondaatje, Paul Beatty and Yan Martel, Pulitzer Prize winners Andrew Sean Greer, Benjamin Moser, Colson Whitehead and Jhumpa Lahiri, Sahitya Akademi winners Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, M.T. Vasudevan Nair as well as the late Girish Karnad, Mahasweta Devi and U.R. Ananthamurthy along with literary luminaries including Amish Tripathi, Chima¬manda Ngozi Adichie, Vikram Chandra and Vikram Seth. An annual event that goes beyond literature, the Festival has also hosted Amartya Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry, Thomas Piketty and former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.
The Jaipur Literature Festival is a flagship event of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across more than 40 cities globally.
